Jazz and the Art of Creative Listening is the culmination of fifteen years of practical experience in the field of jazz appreciation, including thousands of hours creating, experimenting, rehearsing and refining the approach taken by Jazz Insight. As with Jazz Insight's educational programs, Jazz and the Art of Creative Listening is designed to inspire a deeper interest in jazz, and to provide skills for more satisfying listening. The guide covers the process of improvisation, the feeling of swing, each instrument's character and role, interactions among the members of the band, the nature of listening, the spirit and feeling in the art of jazz, and ways jazz and listening skills can enrich one's life. The guide isn't another jazz history. It is a pioneering project at the root of jazz appreciation - listening - created to involve people with the music itself.
